Paralympians Yao Juan, Sheng Yuhong, Gong Bin and Wang Li from Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province will take part in the Tokyo Paralympics Games, local media reported on Aug 19.

Yao Juan won her first Paralympic gold medal in Sydney in 2000 in the women's F44 javelin. She was only 16 years old then. Yao, who has won four gold medals from her five Paralympic Games outings, is the world record holder of three major throwing events in track and field.

Yao is still in fine shape. At the 10th National Games for Persons with Disabilities in 2019, she broke the javelin world record that she had previously set.

"What I want to pass on is not only the sporting skills of people with disabilities, but also the spirit and strength of sports," said Yao.

Sheng Yuhong, Gong Bin and Wang Li are women's sitting volleyball players.

Sheng, who is also China's national team coach for women's sitting volleyball, led her team to gold at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Paralympics.

Gong and Wang are both veterans in sitting volleyball and have demonstrated perseverance in the face of difficulty.

Postponed for a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Tokyo Paralympics will open on Aug 24.
